Will you be one of the 800 million people worldwide tuning in to Super Bowl LVI on February 13, 2022? This epic final showdown of the best of the best of the NFL also boasts a legendary halftime show, some of the most expensive TVcommercials, and is not only one of the biggest sporting events in the world, it also breaks food records. Last year alone, an incredible 14,000 tons of chips and 7.9 million pounds (3.6 million kilograms) of guacamole were consumed during the Super Bowl!

So whether you’re tuning in for the game or the halftime show or even the commercial breaks, a Super Bowl party can't be complete without plenty of snacks and drinks. The sweet and salty classics include everything from chicken wings to popcorn, chips and dips to burgers and dogs, and we’ve got something for everyone with the delicious recipes in this article.

For those who don't know (or care) much about football, we’ve also gathered this year's most bingeable TV (or streaming) highlights, so there’s a snacky occasion for everyone!

Our top 5 TV highlights for 2022

November: FIFA World Cup

Choose the TV highlight that interests you most, mark it in your calendar, gather some recipes from this article, and invite your friends over for a cozy night in!

Inspired by the American snack and fast food culture, which is typically made up of fried foods, dips, and all things cheesy, we'll show you how to turn basic ingredients into fun finger foods for your next night in.

Let's start with: Which snack suits the mood?

3 classic snacks with nacho-cheese-y twist

What do tortilla chips, popcorn, and chicken wings have in common? That's right, they're among the most popular Super Bowl snacks. Tearing open a bag of chips or ordering chicken wings for delivery would be much too easy, so level up and thank the snack gods above for all things breaded (and fried), marinated, and covered with cheese!

Tortilla Chips

Tortilla chips lend themselves most easily as a vehicle for dips, but are also popularly topped with cheese, baked or microwaved, and known as nachos. Why “nachos” and what does that mean? Well, in 1943, waiter Ignacio Anaya “Nacho” Garcia served tortilla patties cut into triangles and then deep-fried and topped with cheese to a group of American women in northern Mexico. The dish took his nickname and this was the beginning of tortilla chips, and nachos, as we know them today. Thanks to Frito-Lay, who introduced tortilla chips to the American market as Doritos, we can all now enjoy crispy tortilla chips in a variety of flavors and use them as tools for spooning up salsa or for melty cheese, but also integrated into recipes in new, fun ways.

Our best new snack recipes using Doritos

Sliders are a favorite hearty snack for the Super Bowl, and these use Doritos in the crust for ultra crispy chicken. Paired with a tangy mayonnaise and crunchy vegetables, it’s just the right bite. This unbeatable combination also works meatless, for example with thinly sliced eggplant or zucchini slices or as a variation of this recipe with bell peppers!

Seven layer dip is a classic Tex-Mex favorite for the Super Bowl. Here we take it hot with a fresh bell pepper salsa, creamy beans, and spicy ground beef (this works just fine with a plant-based alternative, too) covered with a crust of cheese and crushed tortilla chips. Garnished with scallions, dip it fresh out of the oven with more tortilla chips!

Whether you call them pigs in a blanket, dogs in blanket, or sausage rolls, this time-tested and super quick party snack belongs on every finger food buffet in our book. This recipe is special because of the extra cheese and toasty crunch from Doritos, and the spicy ketchup is the perfect partner for the cute bite-size snacks.

Chicken wings

Chicken wings are a given at a Super Bowl party. Making them at home is easier than you think, simply buy the chicken wings (you could even use boneless chicken thighs or breasts here), marinate them, and pop them in the oven or deep fry or air fry them.

How about:

BBQ chicken wings

Our co-founder Mengting marinades her BBQ chicken wings in barbecue sauce amped up with lime, chili, and garlic. The best part of this recipe? It takes just 20 minutes to prepare.

Popcorn

At last year’s Super Bowl alone, 4000 tons of popcorn were eaten. Watching something, whether at the movies or in front of your own TV, and a big bowl or bag of popcorn simply belong together, so for the right feeling at your party, buy some unseasoned popcorn or make homemade popcorn for the recipes below.

2 easy ways to make delicious popcorn:

Caramel popcorn:
For about 2 ½ cups (300 g) of popped unsalted popcorn, heat ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and turns golden brown. Remove pot from the heat and stir in 5 tablespoons (75 g) unsalted butter. Gently mix the popcorn with the finished, hot caramel. Let cool, then snack away!
