The upside down boycott: Why consumers are turning some supermarket goods upside down
New US boycott hits the shelves
In German supermarkets, customers are seeing more “upside down” goods each day. This is due to the “Buy from EU” movements and the somewhat boycott of US goods that are associated with the harsh tariffs from the Trump administration.
On Reddit, the movement already has a significant following, and it is also mentioned that it is not merely a boycott but rather support for European goods.
Does the “Buy from EU” movement have downsides?
"Frankfurter Rundschau" says there are implications that this movement results in more work for supermarket employees. However there is a great deal of political agendas involved to criticize US policies, hence it is expected that consumers are leveraging their “power”.
Europe takes boycotts seriously
From supermarket goods to cars (Tesla), European consumers are showing a great deal of interest in practicing their right to boycott. From the upside down “Buy from EU” movement, to a %70 decrease in Tesla sales, it is apparent that EU citizens will continue the trend.
